Barack goes "Home"

Senator Barack Obama is touring Africa to bring attention to the Aids epidemic in Africa, meet with African leaders and re-connect with his father's Kenyan homeland. He got a rousing reception in Kenya; apparantly Kenyans are as hungry for inspiring leaders as Americans are. Obama is also taking the trip because he is on the Senate subcommittee for African affairs. Might he have also chosen a far off place to look statesman-like for a certain election in 2008?

Katrina: One Year Later

One year later, and America is starting to remember that Katrina happened and is still impacting thousands of lives. Katrina is the subject of countless articles, and photo opps. I still haven't seen, Spike Lee's When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts on HBO, but I'll catch the rebroadcast of all of it on Aug. 29th, because it's clearly the most extensive and most no-holds barred program that we'll see on what happened last year. It made a friend of mine say that it made her feel helpless, because what can you do when the forces that are supposed to protect and defend the people are intent on neglecting the people?

First, we can get rid of these people, beat them so bad that they can't cheat this time. We can also let the president know that we still care about the fate of our fellow citizens and of the great city of New Orleans. More ideas to come; now if we could just jog America's memory about Darfur...
